We started to dream about our own place soon after we started dating ... Finding a wheelchair accessible house for rent is not an easy task and the rents here on the coast are higher than in other places. We found a nice place and lived there for 5 years....but had to move and find another place... Living like that, not knowing what will happen next year, is quite stressful and you can never call the house you are living in "home"...
In 2009 the owner of our first rent-house started to talk about selling the house but for a price we couldn't afford so we started looking around for a perfect place to build our dream home. After seeing almost every piece of land for sale (for a friendly price) on our 43km long coast in September 2009 we found the perfect spot :-)
We always wanted to live near the city and the border (Vito works in Trist) but in a small village surrounded by great neighbors and nature.
The place we found is not big - only 550m2 (5920.150 ft²) - but it has everything we wanted: is only 3km from the boarder, 6km from the city, the neighbors are great and we have a wonderful view over Trist and woods... we also see a small piece of sea from there and all those things all together makes it the perfect place...
In December 2009 we signed all the papers and are now the proud owners of this small Laputa...
In February 2010 we start working with a great architect and soon after the project was done... but that's another story....and another post :-)

V&V - Let's introduce ourselves and why we called it Laputa
So who is hiding behind the idea of Project Laputa?
Vito (34) and me (Vesna, 31) - that's why V&V ;-)
We met in the summer of 2005, fell in love and start living togheter 6 months after our first date...We are a busy, active couple with lots of interests and things in common... You can say that we are kind of international - Vito is Italian and I'm Slovene. We live on the Slovenian coast and love it... Children? No, not yet but who knows what the future may bring :-)
So why Laputa?
One day Vito asked me if I ever saw a Miyazaki's anime cartoon and I said no.... so we spent the afternoon watching his best creations... That's when I fell in love with the legendary flying castle Laputa in the cartoon Laputa - Castle in the Sky. Swift also mentioned Laputa in his book Gulliver's Travels. This flying island was a place of incredible beauty, with gardens, lakes and waterfalls and the castle and it's inhabitants lived in a perfect syntony with the nature around it... So, a few years after the first time I saw the cartoon, when our architect asked us what name we wanted to give to our house we both said Laputa...

The beginning
So finaly I started the blog that will allow you to follow us in our big adventure - building our dream home.
In the next months you'll be able to find out who we are, how it all started, the project, the building of the house step by step, all the funny and sad moments, who helped us and how, tricks and tips how to build a wheelchair friendly home without making it look like nursing-home and so on...
Hope you'll enjoy...
P.S.: this blog is in English since we have a lot of friends that don't speak Slovene and we want them to be able to be a part of this too... but I hope that you'll be patient with possible grammer errors in the texts ;-)
